What you read and hear will not only help guide you through the course but will keep you safe allowing for a better experience.

Line Up Correctly

At the start of the race, it is of up most importance that you align yourself properly by pace. In most races, only fast runners should line up near the front. Walkers and slower runners need to take their place at the back of the pack. There is nothing wrong with this and it will allow everyone to have the best race possible. When people line up accurately according to their pace, everyone is safer and happier.

Smile!

You never know where the camera might be- on course, at the finish line or post race festivities.

Stay to the Middle

In most regions, the outsides of the course are for passing. If you are not passing, but rather running with the body of runners, stay to the middle of the lane. This will allow people to pass on the outside instead of having to weave back and forth around people.

Thank the Volunteers

The volunteers give their time and make races happen. Smile, wave, say "thank you", even grunt in their direction to let them know you appreciate what they are doing. Hopefully, they'll keep coming out to help, so you can keep enjoying the races.

Be Aware of Those Around You

When you are racing, it is easy to lose yourself in your thoughts and forget about the people around you. This leads to people being cut-off or even being tripped.

Have Waterstop Courtesy

Be especially aware of people around you during waterstops. It's important that you don't slow down, or start walking, directly in front of someone else who is going faster. Please make an effort to throw your cup at a trash container. If there aren't any available at the waterstops, then toss the cup with other cups. Try not to have them spread all over the course; remember, someone has to clean them up.

Clear the Chute

When you cross the finish line, don't just stop to catch your breath. You actually need to continue on out of the chute area before you stop. If you stop directly after you cross the finish line, you may find yourself being run over by others trying to cross behind you.

Run or Walk No More than TWO Abreast

Other runners will want to get by you. If you are walking in a group, please start in the back.

CHESTER Run 4 Shelter is fast approaching! This year, the popular race features a 5K and 10K along with the addition of a half marathon. Run 4 Shelter will occur on Saturday, Sept. 10. The race starts at the old outlets in Chester and takes place along the beautiful Cross Island Trail. The recipient of the proceeds raised from this event is the local, nonprofit organization Queen Anne's County Christian Assistance Inc. (QACCA). This group operates the only cold weather emergency shelter in the county. QACCA also serves the poor through the inclusion of a year round transitional housing program.

Run 4 Shelter is QACCA's largest fund raising activity with the anticipation of generating thousands of dollars for a worthwhile cause. Along with the race, the event will feature a large silent auction with theme baskets, restaurant gift cards, tricycle, vacation homes, novelties, and many other goodies.

"This event features something for everyone – athletes and shoppers alike!" said Krista Pettit, executive director of QACCA.

Pettit added, "With the addition of the half marathon, we expect the attendance to exceed 1,000 participants. This is a great run/ walk featuring the Chesapeake Bay! It's a fun way to support a good cause!"

Queenstown Bank of Maryland is located in the town of Queenstown, in the State of Maryland. The Queenstown Bank of Maryland was incorporated April 19, 1899, and officially opened for business July 1, 1899. We are currently the second oldest locally established bank in the county. Originally it was known as Queenstown Savings Bank of Queen Anne's County, the name was changed to Queenstown Bank of Maryland by the actions of the Maryland State Legislature in 1910.

In 1918, a site in the center of Queenstown was secured for the purpose of construction of a new bank building. That building opened for business on April 21, 1919. Assets having grown from the original $5000 to $142,000 in less than 20 years.

In 1962 our second branch opened when the Grasonville location was dedicated on March 24th.

The next Branch was not opened until may of 1980. The Chester Branch was dedicated by then President James R. Friel. This is the first branch of ours to receive an ATM machine when one was installed in December of 1985.

In 1995, the bank purchased property at Benton's crossing, Routes 8 and 18 in Stevensville for a branch bank. It opened for business in May of 1997

Property was purchased in Centreville in July 1997 to build the bank's sixth branch. The branch opened for business in January 1999.

Our first branch outside of Queen Anne’s County was opened June of 2000 in historic Easton.

In March 2009, we opened our second location outside of Queen Anne’s County in Ridgely, MD.

Our latest addition to the Queenstown Bank family was opened March of 2010. Located in Church Hill, MD, we are now operating in the historic Church Hill Bank building.

Our success during these past 100 years is due to the efforts and loyalty of its people - the customers, employees, officers and directors. The Queenstown Bank looks toward the future with confidence to serve its many friends and customers in a friendly manner that can only be found in a local community bank.

"Our community is faced with many hardships that have only been magnified with the recent economic conditions".

Our Haven Shelter is a temporary winter shelter serving the homeless of Queen Anne's County and surrounding areas. The shelter is open from December into April and is operated by some staff members along with a volunteer force made up of area Christian churches and community members. Our Haven Shelter is the result of the planning and support of QACCA, Queen Anne's County Christian Assistance, an alliance of Christian churches working as one body to help those in need in the name of Jesus Christ.

So how can I help?

1. Go to the The Run 4 Shelter website, and click on the third tab "registration"

2. Click on Register Online and then on "Register as Team Captain or Join A team" Continue with the registration instructions.

3. You will receive a race t-shirt and bib number on race day, and you can follow race news through our Facebook event page. You can also form your own personal fundraising page to share with family and friends.

4. Post pictures of your TEAM on the Run 4 Shelter Facebook Fan Page, share your stories and inspire others to support a worthy cause.

Full Description

Run or walk with your dog! This race will benefit Island Dog Park and Queen Anne's County Animal Services.

(You are not required to bring a dog to participate. There will be awards for runners with and without dogs)

Registration for runners and walkers starts at 8:30 am. 5k run starts at 9 am and 1k walk starts at 9:15 am.

Cost: 5k in advance is $25 (day of event $35). 1k in advance is $15 (day of event $25)

Location: Island Dog Park and Cross Island Trail, 200 White Pine Lane, Stevensville, MD 21666

Awards: 12 and under, 13-25, 26-42, 43-59 and over 60. Awards for runners with and without dogs.

Dogs: Any dog that participates must be on a maximum 6' leash (no flexi leash) the entire time and proof of rabies vaccination with them. No dogs in heat allowed. A dog is not required to participate.

The race is professionally timed, using chips, by Bluepoint Race Management, www.bluepointtiming.com.

The race course for the run is 5k, starting at Island Dog Park and continuing on the Cross Island Trail to Castle Marina Road and back.

There will be vendors in the park during and after the race selling unique and fun dog merchandise. Animal Services will have dogs available for adoption.

Directions to Island Dog Park located at 200 White Pine Lane, Stevensville, MD 21666:

From US-50 East:

Just after crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge onto Kent Island take the first exit which is Exit 37 MD-8 North.

Take a left at the end of the exit ramp at the stop light.

Turn right on Main Street/MD-18.

Turn left on State Street.

Turn right on Church Street.

Continue to the end of Church Street.

The dog park is at the intersection of Church Street and White Pine Lane.

From US-50 West:

Exit 37 MD 8 North (the last exit before crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge)

Take a right at the end of the exit ramp at the stop light.

Turn right on Main Street/MD-18.

Turn left on State Street.

Who are we?
Queen Anne's County Christian Assistance, Inc. (QACCA) is a non-profit organization comprised of Christian churches providing shelter and transitional housing opportunities to the homeless in Queen Anne’s County. The 2010-2011 winter, emergency shelter season has been the busiest season in the five year history of shelter operations in rural Queen Anne’s County, Maryland. This season over 35 guests were assisted with shelter, three meals daily, medicines, clothing, and other essentials.

Where is the money spent?
QACCA operates Our Haven Shelter – Queen Anne’s County’s only winter, emergency shelter open to men, women, and children.

Our Haven Home is an extended housing program with intensive case management assistance.

$25 will shelter a person for 2 nights
$50 will shelter a person for 4 nights
$100 will shelter a person for 8 nights

Race Courses:

*Half Marathon*- FAST & FLAT (expect Asphalt, Beach "50yrds", Wooded trails, Oyster Shell Trails, Elevated Foot Bridges)

The truly unique Half Marathon course follows the Cross Island Trail west to Terrapin Park where runners will follow oyster shell trails to a short "beach challenge" flanking the Chesapeake Bay. The course continues on through the Chesapeake Bay Business Park and looping back on the cross island trail.

*5k & 10K*- FAST & FLAT (expect Asphalt, Elevated Foot Bridges)

The 5K and 10K Race course is situated on Cross Island Trail in Queen Anne's County. The 5K is fast and flat with a course that takes you through a 3.1 mile picturesque landscape of wooded trails and elevated foot bridges. The scenic course runs through Gibson's Grant Community, a quaint new development nestled on the scenic 55 acre Chester River Environmental Park. The 10K course follows the trail to Love Point Park. Come take in nature's beauty and experience the land of pleasant living on the eastern shore!

Run 4 Shelter Race Update- 2

This is your second RACE update for the Run 4 Shelter 5K & 10K www.run4shelter.net

Please be advised that we have changed the start time to 8:00am for both the 5K and 10K races. We will begin race day registration at 7:00AM as well as packet pick up. I suggest arriving at 7:00am to provide ample time for registration and packet pick up.

1. Current Weather Forecast for Saturday-RACE DAY- a high temp of 77 and a low of 66 with a 0% precipitation. East North East wind at 6mph. Humidity at 56%.

7. Course- The Cross Island Trail is paved and you will encounter elevated foot bridges along the way. We ask that you stay to the right along the trail because the faster runners will be meeting participants along the course at high speeds. Note: We do not allow strollers, roller blades and dogs on the course.

8. Water Stops- There is two water stops for the 5K and four water stops for the 10K.

Folks we need your help!

We are asking for volunteers to help with Run 4 shelter RACE operations on Saturday September 11, 2010.

Duties include course monitors, course setup/break down, shuttle services for volunteers, parking attendants, registration help and much more. We also need Bikes to lead both races and Bikes to follow the last walkers in each event.

Time needed- 6:00am until 11:00AM.

Running for Charity!

Running for charity is a great way to get involved with your community and do something for a great cause. There are two major things that you need to consider what event you will run in and what charity will you donate the money to.

I recommend that you run in an event that is organized by a charity or for a charity so that there are no issues raising money for the charity that is that the donation of the money to the charity will be official and genuine. Typically there are two sorts of ways that you can ask people to sponsor you in a charity event. You can ask them to sponsor you for an event of a set distance so you receive the money for the charity before the race. You can also enter events where you run as far as you can in a set amount of time and people will sponsor you for a certain amount per kilometer or lap of a circuit.

Here are some people that you might like to ask to sponsor you:
- Family
- Relatives
- Friends
- Running coach or other runners
- Work or school colleagues
- Local shops or businesses
- Pedestrians you pass while running

So you've picked your event, raised some funds and now you have to run in the event. If you are being sponsored for distance this is your moment to put in an all out effort you'll be surprised by how much money you could raise for charity.

Hi there, I'm Dominic. Thanks for dropping in. I hope you can take a few minutes to look through my web site to see just what Dominic's Farm is all about. As I'm sure you've already guessed by the name, this is my farm. After graduating from The Benedictine School for Exceptional Children in Ridgely, Maryland, it was time for me to act like a grown-up and get a job. Well, for some people like me, jobs in the community are not equipped to handle my special needs. I am very intelligent and able to do any task requested of me. I am autistic, and for me, that makes it very hard to work in a "regular" job, because there are too many changes that upset me, so mom and dad decided that our farm could be a place of my own where I could work productively and still be a part of the community. I love being at the farm with the animals and the outdoor chores. I have, however, since my graduation been able to work at several of Benedictine's job sources including the Graphic's Department at the Benedictine, Wye Institute and Talbot Humane Society but I head for the farm on week-ends and work at the farm. Now come with me and let me show you Dominic's Farm and hopefully you'll come and see us soon.

2009 Special Additions

We have some wonderful additions this year. Our magnificent trio of Yorkies, Stormy, Lucia and Sofia have added alot of excitment at the store not minimizing the joy that Eli, Roonie and Pep bring. We also have two rabbits at the store, Daisy and Tulip and are a delight.

Lola, our mini horse presented us on June 23, 2009 with a beautiful little foal. We namede her Molly Blue, Molly is our darling four year old great neice who is battling lymphoma and Blue is our little stallion plus Molly's eyes are blue.

St. Michaels, MD Take Route 33 toward Easton turning left at the Easton bypass (Route 322) to Route 50 West. Stay on Route 50 for approximately 20 miles. Take Route 456 until you reach 301 N/S. Cross over 301 North and make a left onto 301 South. Follow 301 South for approximately 1/4 of a mile and turn right onto Route 18 East. Turn left onto Links Lane (entrance to the course). Kick off Time-Run 4 Shelter 5K & 10K RUN- September 11, 2010

We are fast approaching the this years Run 4 Shelter Event. I want to share a few exciting add ons to this years event.

I'm excited to report we have added a 10K Race which will be in addition the 5K from last year. The 10K race course will follow Cross Island Trail West to Love Point Park and loop back to the start finish line. This course is very flat and will take you across several elevated foot bridges.

We have added a silent auction this year which will showcase an Exotic Caribbean vacation, Sporting Event Tickets, Golf Package, Teeth Whitening and much more. Check out the Run 4 Shelter website for more details.

Registration is now officially open with a new option to include a TEAM sign up feature. A team Captain must create the team and members can sign up under the team. So, show you team spirit and come out in force!
